AN EVENING WITH THE RIGHT HON. HECTOR MCDONNELL

Historian, author, world-famous realist painter and descendant of one the most distinguished families on the north coast.

Hector mc Donnell was born in Glenarm, County Antrim in 1947, the youngest son of the thirteenth Earl and Countess of Antrim, he grew up in Glenarm Castle before leaving to study history at Eton and Oxford. He went on to study painting in Munich and Vienna from 1965-1966 and subsequent travelling, greatly enhanced his career as a painter.

In 1979 Hector was awarded the illustrious Darmstadter Kunstpreis, one of the most prestigious art prizes in Germany; he then held a solo exhibition in their art gallery in 1981. In 1992, he returned to live and work in between Northern Ireland and New York.
